Bagged apples and cider (mid September) will be available outside the Apple Barn.\u00a0 Pick Your Own will be open on Friday September 15. Pickers and bags will be located in the new lean to shelter outside the Apple Barn. Please weigh your apples and leave payment in the large jar.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">We take great pride in our orchard \u00a0and try to keep it healthy and pristine. Unlike many orchards, we do not use ground herbicides\u00a0to keep the grass down. Instead we mow the entire orchard weekly during growth months and have it professionally pruned each year which makes it <em>&#8220;the prettiest orchard in Maine&#8221; <\/em>and might be one of the reasons we were recognized\u00a0with the honor of being a Blue Ribbon Orchard.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Each year we try to add new trees that are not\u00a0well known in the commercial orchard world or heirloom trees if we are lucky enough to find them. \u00a0In the 2015 season we added several more Wolf Rivers, Orange Cox Pippin, Granny Smith and a Prairie Spy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">When the property was purchased in the fall of 1997, the previous owners had patiently waited for a successor who would keep the orchard running. It was promised and it has been honored for the past 25 years. We believe it is\u00a0\u00a0a community resource and in today&#8217;s world where the sense of community is slipping away, we are committed to and enjoy keeping this fall tradition alive in our community.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Stop by and wander through the orchard. You are welcome to sample the apples. Bring the family and take a picnic to &#8220;picnic point&#8221; down by Clark&#8217;s Cove<\/span>.<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"> \u00a0If you are over 18, can swim, take a kayak\u00a0and enjoy the cove (free). After Columbus Day weekend, the hours change to 10:00 AM &#8211; 5:00 PM Thursdays through Sundays.<\/span><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-panel panel-default\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h4 class=\"panel-title toggle\"><a data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion-914-1\" data-target=\"#3ef0c2f385c1236d8\" href=\"#3ef0c2f385c1236d8\"><div class=\"fusion-toggle-icon-wrapper\"><i class=\"fa-fusion-box\"><\/i><\/div><div class=\"fusion-toggle-heading\">Cider Pressing<\/div><\/a><\/h4><\/div><div id=\"3ef0c2f385c1236d8\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse \"><div class=\"panel-body toggle-content\">\n<p>We generally do not start pressing cider until the end of third week of September because the apples aren&#8217;t ready and the cider tends to be lighter and more bitter. We have received numerous compliments over the years on the quality of our cider. We do not use drops and all apples are inspected and washed prior to pressing. We press two types of cider, Blended and MacRaz (MacRaz is not available until the last week of September). The blended cider typically is a blend of 4 to 8 apple types depending on the time of season.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-panel panel-default\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h4 class=\"panel-title toggle\"><a data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion-914-1\" data-target=\"#bf09b04977fff5e4c\" href=\"#bf09b04977fff5e4c\"><div class=\"fusion-toggle-icon-wrapper\"><i class=\"fa-fusion-box\"><\/i><\/div><div class=\"fusion-toggle-heading\">Orchard Rules<\/div><\/a><\/h4><\/div><div id=\"bf09b04977fff5e4c\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse \"><div class=\"panel-body toggle-content\">\n<p>We are pretty easy going but have a few rules that we ask our customers to follow.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li>No dogs or other domestic animals in Orchard at any time.<\/li>\n<li>No climbing trees. They don&#8217;t like it nor do we.<\/li>\n<li>No picking apples off the ground as it poses a risk for ecoli.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-panel panel-default\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h4 class=\"panel-title toggle\"><a data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion-914-1\" data-target=\"#dc2ddc1c2c070ed11\" href=\"#dc2ddc1c2c070ed11\"><div class=\"fusion-toggle-icon-wrapper\"><i class=\"fa-fusion-box\"><\/i><\/div><div class=\"fusion-toggle-heading\">U-Pick<\/div><\/a><\/h4><\/div><div id=\"dc2ddc1c2c070ed11\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse \"><div class=\"panel-body toggle-content\">Our U-Pick Season usually starts in the beginning of the third week of September and generally is restricted to Rows 1-4 until the end of the month. All trees are labelled by row, tree number and type which allows us to direct you to the apple type of your choice. Apples are sold by the pound. The picking season generally lasts through the third week of October.<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-panel panel-default\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h4 class=\"panel-title toggle\"><a data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion-914-1\" data-target=\"#56c091c4aaba78e0f\" href=\"#56c091c4aaba78e0f\"><div class=\"fusion-toggle-icon-wrapper\"><i class=\"fa-fusion-box\"><\/i><\/div><div class=\"fusion-toggle-heading\">Drops<\/div><\/a><\/h4><\/div><div id=\"56c091c4aaba78e0f\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse \"><div class=\"panel-body toggle-content\">\n<p>We receive many requests from folks wanting to pick up drops. We do not encourage it as eating drops poses a risk of ecoli. We require all persons granted permission to pick up drops to sign the\u00a0\u00a0Indemnification Form below:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Release and Indemnification Agreement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The undersigned acknowledges that he\/she has been advised that picking apples known from the ground constitutes a potential health hazard and that these apples may contain harmful bacteria that can result in serious illness or possibly death.<\/p>\n<p>The undersigned agrees to release, indemnify and hold harmless Timothy Cheney and Clark\u2019s Cove Farm &amp; Inn, his heirs and assigns from any and all liability arising out of the use the apples by the undersigned. The undersigned agrees to inform all persons of the danger and consequences associated with the use of apples gathered from the ground at Clark\u2019s Cove Farm &amp; Inn and accepts liability for any For the past 6 years, we have been told it is the cleanest pressing room in Maine. All equipment is stainless steel or food grade PVC. The cider room is sterilized after each press. We usually press on Thursdays. Schools, families and friends are invited to come watch through the picture window.
